1552 km Non-stop on 97.2cc Hero Splendor Pro!

No matter what CC bike you own, what matters is the fire within. On 13 December, 2013 I did what no long distance bike lover would think of attempting. I rode from Pune to Bangalore and back on Hero Splendor Pro, a less than 100 cc motorbike. The distance translated to over 1500 km.

The ride started at 8:20 am on 13 December, with a slight nip in the air. With butterflies in my stomach and with the anticipation of an amazing ride, I could hardly sleep well on 12th night. But the next morning, I felt fresh when I left home. It was not my first long distance ride, but this was challenging keeping in mind the capacity of the bike.

I believe - safety is a cheap and effective insurance policy. Having seen and experienced accidents on the road I strongly promulgate the use of safety gears while driving. Hence, the previous night itself I rechecked my safety gear – helmet, riding jacket, riding trousers, safety boots and safety gloves.

I was prepared for the cold also. But never expected it would almost freeze my fingers! The biting cold was a factor I had to reckon with, especially during the nights, driving at high speeds. Despite the gloves I wore, my fingers occasionally became numb from the cold wind. My diet was short and simple – 2 handfuls of cashewnuts, a chocolate bar, chewing gum, roadside tea and water. The biting cold made sure I was not sleepy. I took 4-5 tea breaks in the night to warm myself.

I started from Shell Petrol Pump in Warje, Pune, travelled along the national highway to Bangalore, and returned the following morning to Pune at 09.30 hours in the morning, at the same petrol pump.

After completing the feat, the following words rang in my head - A bike is a bike - a technological piece of sturdiness and durability. A truly marvelous piece designed for fast and safe travel, regardless of its capacity.

The ride completed uneventfully (which is good) and much to my satisfaction. On the whole, it was an interesting chapter in my life’s book of memorable experiences.

It's truly satisfying to know that I am not the only one who's in love with the highway joining Bangalore and Pune. The road is really well-maintained and a heaven for riders of all level of expertise.

Had a really enthralling experience just while reading this post. Wonder how exciting it would be to actually cover the distance between Pune and Bangalore on my Hero Splendor.

I have the experience of covering this terrain, but never did it during the winter months. This time I'll surely be a sport and join my motorcyclist friends on a ride from Bangalore to Pune and then from Pune to Bangalore. Yes, it's the other way round for me as I am a resident of the South Indian city.

For me this post is like a travel guide as I am also planning to ride from Pune to Bangalore in April. Hopefully the ride will be as exciting as the one described on this write-up.

Every biker who wants to be safe in road and enjoy their journey on motorcycle should read this post. However, it will be a big lie if I say that I decided to read this post to learn how to stay safe when covering a long distance on a two wheeler. My decision of reading the post was made the very moment I saw the name of my favorite bike, the Hero Splendor Pro.

Yes, to ride happily on the Pune-Bangalore highway during the winter months you must wear a pair of gloves. This will not only make your feel comfortable, but will also keep you safe. I also once committed the same mistake of not carrying a pair with me; but after the freezing experience I had, I will surely not repeat the mistake.

For me there cannot be a more exciting experience than riding the Hero Splendor Pro. This Hero bike has changed the meaning of biking altogether for me. Riding the Splendor Pro on a highway is by far the best leisure I can dream of.

Winter months have just completed their journey and the next winter is almost a year away. I am however, beginning my preparation for a trip from Pune to Bangalore on my Splendor Pro within a week. I'll not miss the chance of hitting the road to Bangalore next December.
